I've been reading Merlin again, and rediscovered that my copy has a few missing letters/words at a certain point in the book. I'm sure someone here can supply them for me!
Part 3 (Prophet), Chapter 11, where Merlin is preparing to prophesy for Uther (p. 372 in my copy):
"A steward came to me a little while later saying that the fire was ready. I wrapped myself in my cloak and took up my staff. Pelleas, praying silently, rose solembly to his feet and joined me. Night was full upon the land wh ... from the tent. We walked to thew fire, which had burned down to a heap of fireshot coals, white-hot with crimson and orange flames."
The elipses (...) show where the letters/words are missing.

Night was full upon the land when we emerged from the tent.

Interesting. Must have something to do with the papermill running through the printing process.
