Has any one else noticed the similarities in the treatment of Mr. Lawheads heros, by the CHurch of the day? In the Celtic Crusades, we see Murdo and his Family betrayed by the CHurch. In the King Raven series, the treatment of Bran by the Church, or more correctly by the local church leaders.

Well as R.C. Sproul said, the "wolves in sheep's clothing" Christ warned us about have most always been clergy, historically speaking.

I had noticed that and it seemed to fit with the things we've seen in other Robin Hood stories as well as stories of the times surrounding the Crusades.
My Western Civilization class went into some detail about the church's involvement in the Crusades and what may have been behind it all. Power.

That made me love tuck, and padraig all the more because it showed me that, even though they are very few and far between, there are church leaders that get it. On a side those charachters inspired me to explore the celtic path in my christianity. anyway...

I find now being on the "inside" of Christianity that organized religion will always be at odds with God himself. God is so huge but we feel the need to put him in a box so we don't "freak out". Once at church (I'm a Pentecostal - Holy Roller) the Pastors wife was going over the order of the service 1) singing 2) announcements 3) testimonies 4) prayers 5) Holy Spirit and 6) the sermon. I asked her if she had checked this schedule with the Holy Spirit so that He would know EXACTLY when He was suppose to arrive. For some reason she didn't appreciate my question/comment. Absolutely horrible things have been done by "the Church" (and are still being done). There is a huge reality that very few people seem to comprehend (especially Christians) : just because God forgives us, doesn't mean we're not still sinners and capable of great evil. Sometimes we're capable of MORE evil because we know we're "off the hook" because of Jesus paying for our sins and we tend to take that for granted (and take advantage of it). I've been treated more horribly by Christians than I have by non-Christians. The only difference is, because I know Jesus personally, I know when "His People" are doing what HE wants and when they're doing what THEY want. Unfortunately, when those outside the church see Christians behaving like total jerks they think, "Jesus is a jerk too". And I don't blame them. If we carry His name , then we should aim to live like Him. I heard someone say once, "the thing that non-Christians find the hardest to believe is Christians who confess Jesus with their mouth and deny Him by their lifestyle." They see us as a bunch of phonies and they definately have a point. "God forgive us for every person who has turned away from You because of something we've said or done OR didn't say or didn't do. You reveal yourself to them when our evil has blinded them to who You really are. And thank you for Stephen Lawhead who lives out his faith in his life and talents. All of us have benefitted by the man you have made him. Amen"
