I was flipping through "Patrick" today, reading my favorite sections, and I decided that it has passed "The Silver Hand" on my Lawhead list. Patrick is now #1!
I just think Mr. Lawhead gets better as he goes. Who knows how good his Robin Hood book shall be? Patrick is so well written, it isn't even funny how good it is. I mean, The Silver Hand was an AWESOME book, but Patrick... okay I'll shut up now.

No. Don't shut up. Keep talking. I for one agree that Patrick is a great book. I can't rank the books in order of preference. I love them all.
The skills and abilities have changed over time but that doesn't lessen how much I truly love all the books. They each have their own merits.

I like Patrick, but Byzantium is way better. In fact, Patrick seems to be in a lot of ways the same story--or at least, follows closely the Byzantium formula.
The Silver Hand and Merlin are equally ranked to me, as the epitome of first-person story telling (which is my preference).

My top three would have to be Empyrion Arthur Byzantium

Patrick's my favorite ... maybe because i read it b4 Byzantium or maybe because it was my first SRL book or MAYBE its because its an INCREDIBLE book! lol
you can definitly see how much SRL has grown as a writer. I have just finished reading the Dragon King Saga and i read Dream Theif not so long ago ... and lets just say im glad his skills has florished

it is so hard to pick one favorite out of SRL's writings... they are all loved in their own ways. however, if i had to choose, i would say Dream Thief is my number one. i have a copy that was published the year i was born and i read it a couple times a year (its a great travel book) and while it may not have been his best writing (i can't really say which is) it is the one i love more than any other. but SoA holds a special place in my heart as well. i can't get enough of the american who found life in Albion...i feel i am so much like Lewis it is scary. i'm born american, but really feel i belong in the wonderful place of Alba more than i do here. thats my love letter to the universe for tonight.

When I finnished Patrick I did feel a little disapointed - I just didn't feel it was quite as good as SRL at his very best. Having said that if it had been written by any other auther (even authers I like) I would have raved about it! I think I just judge SRL books by a different standard to anyone elses - I expect them to be pure unadulterated brillianceand if they fall even slightly short of that I feel a little dissapointed. I just didn't felt that while parts of Patrick were quite superb, the book as a whole didn't quite matchup to Byzantium.

Well, I think it's Mr. Lawhead's best, so I'd say go for it.

I personally am amazed at how well written and entertaining all of his books are. I must say, I haven't come across one of his books i haven't liked. At the same time though it's interesting that he doesn't get as much plublicity as other writers in his leauge, like Bernard Cornwell. While, I read both writers works, Lawhead always comes out on top. I'm kinda curious why you think this is? I think it might be that he is often framed as a Christian writer, and that might alianate part of his fan base.
