I just finished reading Taliesin, Merlin, and Arthur for the first time. I haven't had a chance to continue on, but I have had one question burning in my mind since I finished Arthur. What happened to Arthur, Merlin, the boatman, Charis, Avallach, and all the Fair Folk at the end? When everything had just disappeared, I have to admit I was lost.

The simple answer is: use your imagination...there really is no wrong conclusion. SRL leaves it open to just about whatever outcome your mind can conjure.
That said, the books 'Pendragon' and 'Avalon' can be perceived to shed additional insight into what may have happened. If it is something you are losing sleep over, you definately need to read those two books. And if you're going to do that, you might as well read 'Grail' as well, and complete the series.
All three are near equals of the first three as far as quality reading - if you enjoyed what you've read so far, I strongly encourage you to read the rest.

Thanks, I will read the rest of them. What got me was that Merlin said they would return in 3 days, or he would send for Arthur's wife. Seems like kind of a cold thing to do to just abandon her like that.

Avalon seemed to be the answer to this question in many ways, though it's still surrounded by mystery. But it was certainly a highly satisfying "conclusion", if I may call it that.

I'm in the same place: having read the first three books and about to pick up Pendragon. I hope that if I read Avalon after Pendragon and Grail that the whole story will end in a "highly satisfying" way (as gracebridges put it . I'm very involved in my head and yes, losing sleep is not far from my condition. I guess the ending of Arthur is not what I expected, but if think just about what I remember from the lore revolving the arthurian legends, it makes sense.
