Hmmm Tough call. Merlin, Avalon and then Taliesin.

I agree with Margim...think his order is best although Taliesin is the best bye far I think.

I have to admit to being a little bored with the Atlantean stuff. Maybe I need to re-read it. The parts with Taliesin are very good, though. I still like Merlin better.

my rating is is merlin, taliesin, avalon, arthur, and grail. For a while Taliesin was my favorite, but I reread merlin and liked that one alot more.

Although it has been a while since reading this series, I remember how enjoyable each singular book was. For me, the books are not seperate novels. Rather, one big novel broken into smaller sections. Imagine if it were one big novel, carrying it to your car after just having bought it Each section begs the reader to have knowledge of its predessor to enjoy it in its fullest, and enjoy it I did.

Indeed. The books are excellent works even standing alone, but together the series adds up to an irreplaceable treasure.

I just read Taliesin, Merlin, Arthur and Pendragon, but in summer holidays I want to read Grail in english because it seems that it will not be translated to German in the next 2000 years . My ranking of the 4 books is: Merlin, Arthur, Taliesin and Pendragon @ mattortega: I felt like you when I read Taliesin the first time. But I think that Merlin was suffering much more than Taliesin and I wanted to help Merlin more than every other character in a book I ever read. I do also think that Merlin was the best character SRL has ever written and maybe the best of all characters ever written.

It seems apt that my first post on joining this illustrious forum should be on this thread. Like so may others, Taliesin was also my way 'in' to the Lawhead universe. I soon read the entire cycle, and then moved on to The Draon King. Over time I have read most of Stephen's work...and I just love it. Currently, after a few months writing and recording I have finally found time to get round to The Lance, Rood & Rose trilogy.
Great to be here.

Glad to have you here with us. I'm another who first was introduced to Lawhead's work through Taliesin. I've never stopped wanting more from him since that great day so many years ago.

Strangely, and I'm not sure if this is just me, the order in which I've read his work bears absolutley no correlation to the dates they were written....I've just checked when Taliesin was written...amn I got to that late!
My fav books in this series are the order in whcih they were written, though I didn't really like the end to arthur....it just felt so abrupt, having spent so long with those characters...
fair play to SRL though, I wrote to him complaining and he graciously wrote back to help explain where he was coming from. Top Bloke.

That was really decent of him to do that. Many writers would just ignore the comments.

Taliesin was the first lawhead book I got hold of, and it will always have a special place in my heart because of that. I think I was 11 or so. I love Merlin too, and Avalon.

As i mentioned in the introductions thread, my first Lawhead was Taliesin. And what an introduction it was, I was spellbound. I've not been grabbed by an author like that since David Gemmell.
I'm sorry that I'd not came across Stephen Lawhead earlier in my life as he really does have a magical way of telling a story.
Taliesin is probably my second favorite of the Pendragon Cycle, with Merlin being my second.

I think you've picked a great series to choose from. Merlin was one of my favorites as well. That entire series is really awesome and full of promise.
I remember reading the Dragon King Trilogy and Taliesin when they first came out... way back in the day. I've never gotten tired of rereading them.
