I never got the idea that Treet slept with Calin... anyway.
One thing I've always wondered about was this: Why did Lawhead put in Danielle in the very beginning of book one? That didn't seem to have any logic behind it. Any thoughts?

I think it was just to make Treet more confused and ready to do what they wanted. After all, eight million dollars could have bought him many, many women (so his logic went).

One of my top four Lawhead series (couldn't narrow it down any further). I think 'Hage' came from 'HSC', the Human Survival Cells used during the Red Death, which became the areas of expertise, eventually developing into the social strata we know during the story. I was most fascinated by the idea of it becoming a totally different civilization. There is someone in my town whose last name is Hageman. I have always wondered if that implies that Lawhead got the Hage concept from history....

I'm rereading this story again for the first time in a few years and really enjoying it.
I do have a question for any of you who have the book, though.
In the first part (Search for Fierra), Chapter 56, the last four pages seem to have paragraphs that are out of order. Preben arrives twice, then Treet seem to arrive at the amphidrome twice for his speech.
Has the author issued an errata list for these books?

Hi, bwingrave, and welcome here!
I am looking at my copy, a Zondervan / HarperPrism edition, and I don't see a problem with that chapter. There are other editions, though, such as the Lion omnibus, and perhaps there is a misprint in one of them.
I'm not aware of an errata list for the book.
Hey, why don't you tell us your thoughts on the book as you're rereading it?

I've got the first printing by Crossway Books, if that means anything.
I've always enjoyed the story. This and the Song of Albion books are, for me, accessible epics, which has been a rare thing in my reading experience.
I tend to get confused in the middle of the first Empyrion book, as a bunch of names and new words are all introduced in just a few pages, and I have trouble keeping them straight. One of these days, I'll make myself a short list of characters (and their hages and positions) and new vocabulary, to make the next reading easier.
I think I keep coming back to this book because it's such a good mix of personal story, sci-fi, civilization development, and travelogue. Everything seems to work together really well.
I'll try to remember to add more as I continue through the story.

These book are great. I first got into Sci-Fi with the Star Wars series (Han Solo trilogy if anyone else is a nerd like me) and after finding out that the author of my favorite fiction work (Byzantium) also wrote sci-fi i had to check it out. He does a great job with the whole thing from top to bottom in my opinion. The style and plot does remind me of Dune and also some Star Wars works. I really wish SRL would pick up some sci-fi action again. Dream Theif was alright, but the Empyrion Saga is top three all time sci-fi series in my mind.

I agree, myrddin. I think I prefer Dream Thief slightly, but Emperion is good, too. I'm not a huge scifi fan, but I think Lawhead does it quite well and I too wish he would write more of it!

Ditto, I also really enjoyed both books. Tegid lent me a whole stack of Lawhead's works I hadn't read yet and the Empyrion series came in one giant tome. Took me awhile to get through!

I thoroughly enjoyed both books when I read them. There is a very dark feeling for a while there but it is a very good read.

Really enjoyed this series. I thought the play of the fear of Dome and the faith of Fierra was a great contrast. Also I love the fact that Dome's downfall was the very thing they thought that was keeping them secure. I've been toying with the idea lately of how one would go about adapting this into a movie. I think it could work although you'd have to switch up the order a bit.
