Hearing the shout, Rhakar raced ahead, unafraid of the danger he might find. The sounds were mingled with those of the falls. It was fortunate he had stopped near the top of the outcropping to rest the night before or he would have failed to hear a word.
Stopping and glancing out from behind two trees, he spied Kaie whirl from looking at a man a short distance below him to one holding a young woman by the throat and holding a knife.
Even from this distance he recognized both men. The anger inside him surfaced quickly at the sight of two of the men who had killed those dear to him all those years past.
His pulse quickened as he grabbed a dagger from his waist and jumped down to the man below him and stabbed him quickly in the arm and both legs to prevent escaping as he jumped down the last dozen feet to the ground and came up running towards the man holding the young woman.
As the man turned towards him, recognition and hate in his eyes, Rhakar threw the dagger with all his strength straight at the man's head. He reached out and grabbed the knife from the now lifeless fingers before it could cut the young woman.
Pausing the kneel over the fallen man and then glance up towards the falls where the other man was writhing on the ground in obvious pain, he stood, breathless and faced the two women. He blinked several times very quickly as he caught his breath and looked at them both closely before walking back towards the falls, not saying a word to either as he let the blood in his body cool.

Kaie stood, stunned for a moment, then glanced over at Shylah, who seemed to have passed out. Following Rhakar, Kaie tried to gather her thoughts. She knew what he had seen and didn't blame him for what he had done, but explaining that they were her father's men would very likely make the situation worse. What should she say?
"Rhakar? Are you... why... oh, thank you for helping me! But...they...I'm not sure he would have harmed us!"
Behind them, the moaning stopped and Rhakar whirled.
Kaie felt a sudden blow to her shoulder and staggered. "What?"
Then the pain came and she fell with a choked cry as Rhakar ran past her to where he had left the second man. She heard a cry of fear and a low gurgle as she dropped her head and let theworld fog away.

shylah slowly opened her eyes and wondered what had happened. she looked around and saw the pool of blood beside her and her first thought was if she was cut, that was until she noticed the dead man laying to her side.
she quickly got to her feet only to see kaie laying face down near the stream with a strange man over her. grabbing the knife from beside her she ran towards the man.
get away from her she shouted as she lunged forward.
Rhaker realising that the girl did not understand he was not trying to harm Kaie, jumped to his feet and stepped aside grabbing shylahs wrist and placing it behind her back while he explained what had happened.
shylah dropped the knife and knelt beside kaie.
do you have cloth? we need to stop the bleeding immediately
I know you don't know anything about me but trust me, I know what I am doing to some extent I fix animals. we need to stop the bleeding as much as possible so I can see how deep the wound is...from there I will decide if we need to stitch it, cortourize it or just bandage it.

He couldn't help but be shocked by the blade sticking from Kaie's back. He talked quickly with the woman as he relieved her of the knife. Here. Take this. Removing his shirt without a second thought, he handed it over. I'll let you do what you can. I'll be back after I take care of that other man.
Running off, he climbed the cliff and strode over to the man who was now standing and holding a blade forth. With quick movements, he had burried his blade through the man's chest up to the hilt before turning around and moving with great haste back down to see how Kaie was.
Did the knife miss everything vital?

Kaie moaned and tried to roll over, but firm hands pinned her to the ground.
"Hold her, she's waking up!" Shylah's voice startled her for a moment before she remembered what had happened.
"Who...?" She turned her head and found her nose pressed to someone's knee. "Aah, what?"
"Kaie, it's Rhakar. You'd really help us if you'd lie still for just a bit longer."
The pressure on her back increased and she felt a sudden stinging pain in the midst of the ache of her shoulder. "Ow!" She couldn't help jumping.
"It's ok, Kaie. I'm done now. Help her sit up, Rhakar, and I'll put on the bandages. I'm glad I had my emergency pack along! Nice tattoo, by the way."
Kaie grimaced as Rhakar supported her. "Ow! What exactly, happened here?"
They told her as Shylah smeared antibacterial cream over the wound and wrapped the shoulder.
Rhakar reached for the knife and grimaced. "This is filthy! I don't suppose you have any antibiotics, Shylah? If not, Kaie's still going to get pretty sick, I think. We'll have to get her to my place and figure out what to do. You're going to need some lessons in the language, also. We can't keep speaking English."

He stood and quickly placed the knife in a loop at his belt. If you're feeling up to moving, we should get back to the village before anyone else comes along. The wolves will take care of these...men.

I have some animal antibiotics in my backpack they should be safe to use on humans and will be better than nothing.
Shylah takes an injection from her back pack and prepares it
stay still, it won't hurt a bit.
kaie looks away as shylah prepares to stab the injection into her right arm.
there all done.
oh already? that was quick Kaie exclaimed
yes I told you it wouldnt hurt, I am used to giving needles but usually my patients can't talk. shylah chuckles softly.
I agree with your friend here kaie we need to get moving there is someone approaching they look to be about 15 minutes away possibly 10.
how do you know that? Kaie asks inquisitively
if you look over there in the distance shylah points in the direction of kaies fathers village. you will notice birds flying out of the trees if you look close enough, birds don't just take flight like that for no reason and the high pitch noise they are making signifies that they feel unsafe and is a warning to others. But we really don't have time to go into this any further we need to get out of here as soon as possible

Kaie tried to walk, but she'd lost a lot of blood. Finally, Rhakar elected to carry her.
She glared at him. "It's just my shoulder. I can walk!"
Shylah shook her head. "Let him help so we can keep moving. You're slowing us, Kaie, whether you think you can walk or not."

He held her in his arms as he started walking off in the direction of their home. Don't fight me. You need the rest. That would needs time to heal and you've been through a great deal.
Rhakar turned as he heard the noise coming from far off. He peered into the trees as if to discern what was approaching before grinning slightly to himself and moving on.
She's right about people coming on. They will be hear soon. There are several large animals moving quickly through the brush getting away from here. It would be best if we were gone in case those approaching aren't friendly. He spared a slight glance at his bare torso and tried not to cringe at the site of the whorls and tatoos covering his body. As soon as they returned to the village, he would need to find himself a fresh garment to hide himself.
**Back in the woods**
Cyfnach stiffened at the cries. He gestured quickly to a pair of men ahead of them and in a heartbeat the two were off and running through the deep brush towards the falls.
Turning to Rhian, he gripped her arm. There is some kind of trouble ahead of us. About a league ahead are the falls. You know your way around there I know already. We must stop our attempts at concealment here. The man behind us will take care of that. We must hurry now and attempt to help those we can. We are too close to the village to be entirely safe.

by the way I am shylah, we havn't been introduced properly yet I believe. Are you from earth? I notice you have some interesting tattoos I doubt you got from around these parts. shylah stood looking at rhakars bare chest and arms and the interesting patterns...she couldnt help but also notice he was well built and if he had been on earth would have thought he worked out at the gym fairly regularly.
I have a shirt and jeans in my pack if you want to borrow the shirt for now, you look a little uncomfortable without one
shylah started to undo her back pack assuming he would accept the offer
you seem to know those guys back there from someplace...what's up with that?
anyway you can tell me as we walk, we do need to keep going

Sunlight poured through the treetops as Kaie knelt on the ground where Rhakar had set her for a moment. She tried to force herself to stand and keep walking, but her muscles weren't responding. She couldn't help but notice the crystaline quality of the light in that moment and wondered when she had stopped noticing. Beside her, Rhakar was talking. She forced herself to look at him and listen to what he was saying. Why did she feel so distant from the world all of a sudden?
Shylah's strong hands caught her as she swayed. "I feel...strange,..." Kaie said.

He glanced over at the woman as he set Kaie down gently. I'm Rhakar. I'm from Earth. It has been a long time since I was last there. He cringed slightly at her noticing the tatoos but he continued on. I have quite a few. Most I received after reaching Albion, some are from when I was still on earth.
Thank you for the offer. A shirt would be appreciate. My pants are still covering enough of me for my dignity.
You're right. I did know those men if you want to call them that. It is a long story. They and others with them killed people I loved a couple of years after I came here. It was during a time when I was serving someone who now I loathe.
It was on this man's orders that some people very close to me were butchered.
He paused as Kaie swayed and only stopped from falling as Shylah caught her.
Stepping forward, he quickly lowered her to the ground and looked at the wound which had turned green. The knife had poison. It needs to be withdrawn. Do you have anything or should I do it?

Shylah shrugged. Rhakar ran his fingers over Kaie's swollen skin, prodding the wound as he tried to decide what the best course of action would be. Shylah stood to the side, looking slightly disgusted at the sight.
"Would you care to help?" Rhakar glanced up at Shylah, but she merely shook her head.
"No."
"What if I told you that she'll die in less than an hour?"
At this, Shylah licked her lips and bent down.
... there we go. Did I do anything wrong?

Well, most of the time, other than a little taking control of other people's characters you typically have something to do with a character you create. So what you did wasn't necessarily wrong. I would suggest that you create a character that can do something as well. This will give you free liberty to do what you want with your own character and other people can do the same with theirs. That's pretty much what we've got going in here.
Thanks for jumping in.
**Back to the action**
Rhakar gestured quickly. We need some fire to boil some water. The stream we've been following should provide the water. Do you have anything to start a fire?
He leaned over and pressed his hands over the wound to warm it.
**Back at the falls**
Cyfnach and the group came upon the clearing and in minutes found traces of the departing figures. Pulling everyone together, Cyfnach spoke hurriedly. We need to hurry. They are only a short distance ahead of us now.
There is nothing to be done for these men and I don't recognize them from our village either. Let's go and hurry.

shylah rumages through the front pocket of her knapsack and pulls a box of matches out.
"I think I have just the thing"
after gathering some twigs and bark and a few larger pieces of wood shylah stacks the smallest of the twigs and bark with larger twigs on top of those and lights it after it's lit she adds a few larger pieces.
"there we go, but we will need to hurry this is going to be a beacon of our where abouts to who ever it is in the distance" Shylah remarks " I will go and grab some water I have a small one person billy that I use when camping for tea will that do to boil some water in?"
