Oooh, start collecting egg cartons quick!!!! Paint and egg cartons make lots of cool animals. Here is the result of a quick web search. www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/Eggcarton.shtmlThis one has some nifty ideas. I linked to the page with the porcupine. www.dltk-kids.com/animals/mporcupine.htmHave fun! Doing things with paper plates, paper towel rolls, and some string or wire is a nice, inexpensive way. You can put out a call for these things from friends. Then you just need paint, perhaps print out some forms on your printer for coloring, some glue and a few accessories like wiggly eyes or precut cardboard shapes and you're there. Oh, don't forget those nifty foam shapes, Walmart has cartons of them for really cheap, and I'm sure there are tons of sites that give ideas for using them. Have fun!

One dollar per kid is tough. Painting is always good. We had a jungle theme this year and we painting canvas bags and the kids loved it. Might be more than $1. We also painting door knob hangers that my wife found at the dollar store.

How about using paper lunch sacks and make animal puppets. Very inexpensive. Could use crayons, markers, cut out noses and eyes out of construction paper, use yarn for hair etc.

Chrystalized: When I went to Mexico - we made gospel bracelets. You know you use all the colors and they all stand for something (Jesus' blood, righteousness, sin, ect...). This is a really good idea. Not to expensive if you buy the beads in bulk, and buy string in Costco. I know you are already doing animal masks but if you need another idea, this is what I would recommend.
