Same rules as the SRL Trivia. Just wondering- do you guys want to make it 1. just LotR-and-Hobbit 2. 1 plus Silmarillion 3. 1+2 plus Unfinished Tales 4. or go all the way with Histories of Middle-Earth and the Letters?
Here's an easy one to start with from LotR: What wind is not mentioned in Boromir's funeral song?

You'd get more people with just #1. I love the additional stories, but I don't have all of them...nor have I read them. I found that the silmarillion boggles my poor brain with all its names, so it's been slow going (like a year) reading through it. An unfamiliar experience let me tell you...if a book lasts a day around here it's a miracle. (I'll answer later, if noone else gets it.)

It's the East Wind (the east being unlucky becayse if its association with Sauron).
Also, I think we should make it LotR and Silmarillion--that way we can ask cross-book questions.

Sounds good. Let's just wipe out options 3 and 4.
Your turn to ask.

Who was the original owner of the Ring of Barahir (that Aragorn wears in LotR)?

I believe it was Fingolfin. Been a while since I've read that part of Silmarillion.

Or was it Felagund of Nargothrond?

Sorry guys. The point goes to Tegid, because it was, indeed, Finrod Felagund.

Good one. I took a guess. It was 50/50 between those two and I guessed wrong.

When you stop and take inventory, eagles figure fairly prominently throughout Tolkien's stories as instrumental in judgments both major and minor.
One blessing for each first mention of a time when an eagle appeared to save or doom or warn. The winner will be the person who is first mentioner of the most incidents.

The eagles helped the dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf after their escape from the Misty Mountains.
Later in the battle of 5 armies.
An eagle helped Gandalf when he was on Orthanc.
When Gandalf was stuck on the top of Carhadras.
The eagles helped again during the battle at the Black Gate.
The eagles helped rescue Sam and Frodo from the slopes of Mt. Doom.
The eagles helped keep watch on Thangorodrim in Silmarillion.
The eagles helped protect the hidden realm of Gondolin.
The eagles served Manwe in bringing him information on what was taking place all throughout Middle Earth.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

1. The eagles helped the dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf after their escape from the Misty Mountains. 2. Later in the battle of 5 armies. 3. An eagle helped Gandalf when he was on Orthanc. 4. When Gandalf was stuck on the top of Carhadras. 5. The eagles helped again during the battle at the Black Gate. 6. The eagles helped rescue Sam and Frodo from the slopes of Mt. Doom. This looks good for 2 from Hobbit and 4 from LotR. I'll get these blessings to you one at a time over the next day or so. Hmm ... I'm really wanting specific incidents of saving/dooming/warning more than long-term standing assignments. There are a number of such episodes in Silmarillion.

In addition, the Eagles bring Huor and Hurin to Gondolin, they help in the rescue of Maedhros from Thangorodrim, they fight in the War of Wrath against Morgoth's winged dragons, and they generally spy out the land for Radagast the Brown.

Those points will be coming your way over the weekend, d.v. Again, I'm looking for specific acts or incidents of saving/dooming/warning. And there are at least three more that I can think of.
