I was told to mow the lawn. Sure, I said, I like to mow the lawn. All is going well, I'm about halfway done, when disaster strikes!!!! Okay, the belt just came off. It happens all the time. I know exactly how to fix it. Well..... I realize that the belt did not slip off in the back, where I can easily reach it, but off the front, where it is covered by a plastic cover. I pull the tools out of the garage and am about to take the cover off when my mom brings out my lunch. I'm trying to unfasten three bolts with one hand, while greedily munching a ham-and-turkey sandwich with the other. Well, I finish my sand wich and wrestle with the bolts. (You know they put them in the weirdest places.)
I FINALLY unbolt the cover and pull the cover off, and to my horror I discover...
The belt actually DID slip off the back where I could easily reach it, and I realize that all my hard work was for naught. I place the belt back in its proper position and shove the plastic cover back on (I thought it was hard to take it OFF).
I finish mowing the lawn. After ripping out half my hair.

Well, I'm glad that only your hair got ripped out and now other body parts. . .one of my friends had an uncle who decided to unclog the mower while it was still running

one time, i had to mow the lawn, except that the good one was broken, and I had to use the super heavy ancient one...for some reason, my father didn't realize why this was difficult until I was about halfway done with the yard. it was on a hill, btw, and I'm a girl.

THAT's difficult? How about spending two hours in a basement that's grimy, disgusting, smelly, and completely messy, looking for a Kermit the Frog doll that someone lost that your sister needs for a project tomorrow. No one ever spend two hours in the basement for my projects... and your mom was at least being nice to you. **sobs** (I'm trying to laugh it off... it's hard, 'cause it was this afternoon).

Wow. I'm sorry for all of you. Amazing how things tend to pop up when you least want them to. I think a lot of it is just a test of our patience.

That reminds me. I have to re-align the front wheels on my John Deere. Thanks for the reminder.

the disclaimer is that this story isn't mine, but it did happen to a friend of mine
Way back in the days of high school, a good friend of mine was mowing lawns for cash--he did a little yard work service deal and made enought money and was good enough at it that people liked him. Anyway, one day, he was in a hurry and had two lawns to do (we were having a party that night and he wanted to get there early enough to waterski), so he thought he'd save some time.
Well, he chose to save a little time in a very, very stupid way. The house he was working at had a backyard that was higher than the front, and was held up by a huge (at least 7 foot) retaining wall. Normally, he'd mow the front yard with a riding mower, but do the backward with a push-mower because of the retaining wall. (At this point, you can probably see where this is going.) So, in the interest of time, he decides, "Well, I'll just ride over the back yard and be really careful."
So, he's got it mostly done, except for the bit next to the retaining wall...so he decides to put the mower in reverse, back up to the edge of the wall, then put it in forward and get the grass growing all the way to the edge. Well, this worked until his third swipe, and he underestimated how much ground he had before the retaining wall...and backed his mower off of it. Destroyed the lawn mower, but he walked away from it was just a few scrapes and bruises--very, very lucky.

Mowing is never a simple job for my dad. Instead of using the push mower down by their pond, he tries to get as close as he can with the rider. Needless to say that he is gotten the rider stuck in the pond on several occasions. You would think he would of learned by now.

That is kind of funny but sad as well. Some people never learn.
I'm glad that there weren't any serious injuries from it all.

I did find it, after I'd repeatedly informed my mom I couldn't. That makes it even worse! lol
