Greetings, I was briefly on the previous incarnation of the Stephen Lawhead formation but didn't update it when it go switched over. My name is Rob and I'm a Lutheran pastor in Kearney, NE. I've been an avid Stephen Lawhead reader since I first read Dreamthief many, many years ago. I have been in Kearney for almost 4 years now, and if you didn't know, it's Stephen's hometown. Stephen's mom still lives in town and has a business here, and though I've thought about going in and talking to her and letting her know that her son is my favorite living author, I've never done so, probably because I don't want to appear like I'm a stalker or something. Anyway, the administrative assistant at my congregation (also a Lawhead fan) has a friend who ran into Stephen's mom and she had asked him to pray for Stephen as he has cancer (something to do with the throat area) and is seeking treatment in Washington State. I'm not seeking to spread rumors, and intend to go and meet Stephen's mom to verify this information, but would encourage you to pray for him and his family. Blessings!

Nice to meet you first off.
That's really sad that Stephen has gotten that.
He's been in my prayers in general for some time now but I'll be refocusing things a bit.
Thanks

Hey, nice to meet you! Welcome! The name cycling pastor is unusual. Is there a story behind it? (I love stories!) Apart from you're a pastor. Maybe you ride everywhere? I like bikeriding!

Hoodedwarrior,
yes, on both counts. Well, I should clarify the riding a bike everywhere . Since I live in a parsonage across the street, I don't commute to work. About 7 years ago I went on a bike ride with some pastors and laypeople called Bike for Life, which supports life causes and since then have been hooked on road cycling, though I'm old and slow, so I don't race, just like to ride about 20 miles or so several times a week and throw in a few 30 and 50 mile rides and then usually one extended 4-6 day ride of about 300-500 miles each summer. The most I've done is 516 miles in 6 days across the state of Nebraska, with 3 centuries in a row. My motto though is always more like the tortoise rather than the hare, as several of the other riders with us on our rides will get ahead, and then when they stop to rest, I many times will just keep on riding. My goal one day is to ride in "Ragbrai" a ride across Iowa that has on average of over 10,000 riders during the week. I was born in Iowa, so that's the appeal, and I guess it's quite the event! So how's that for a story?
