Here's somthing fun. I'll start a story and cut off at a certain point. The next person will pick up and then drop off again, etc. etc. etc.
It'll be fun
He was staring at a mossy tree. The tree loomed above all the others in the forest. He began to walk about the tree and observe things about it. He identified it as a White Ash tree. A good tree. He looked around at the other trees. They were ash as well. Other types of ash though. Mostly Black Ash. This seemed to be the only White Ash tree in the forest. As he gazed at the tree he did not the notice the ..... Continue there.
Think of a name for this main Character.
Try it. It might be fun.

I'll jump.
"As he stared at it, he did not notice the odd smell permeating the air. This was somewhat indicative of his personality, for Ingmar was the type of person who was absorbed to the point of myopia. It was a family trait; his father had been killed when he noticed a rosebush on a battlefield. The smell grew, however, and at last Ingmar seemed aware of it, as well as the presence behind him. Turning slowly, he saw...."

Turning slowly, he saw a twiggy little creature. It stood about 1 meter in height and it's body seemed to be composed of twigs and covered with soft green leaves. The creature was a Green Man, guardian of the forest, and held a small spear before him. Looking up at Ingmar, it squeaked . . .

"Looking up at Ingmar, it squeaked, coughed, and said, "Excuse me. I can't help noticing you admiring our beautiful White Ash. It really is a unique tree, if I say so myself, although--see, I am perfectly frank--its top could use a little pruning. But a lovely, lovely tree. It's been in the family three, four thousand years--nothing much, picked it up at a bargain, really, when some fifedom or other had to foreclose. My old great-grandfather--excellent fellow, really, but just a bit batty, you know--thought it would make an excellent summer-home, but of course in summer all the tourests come by and it really isn't suitable at all. I told him myself--" Ingmar, seeing that this torrent of verbiage could very well flow on forever, ventured to interrupt. "Excuse me," he said, "But who are you?" Drawing himself up with dignity, the Green Man said...."

Drawing himself up with dignity, the Green Man said, "Perhaps you are unaware of the customs of this forest, sir. I assure you I meant only to make you welcome. We must teach you some manners." He put his hand into the pouch on his belt and drew out...

He put his hand into the pouch on his belt and drew out a stylus and a writing-pad. Gesturing grandiloquently, he said, "Now, look you close, master--eeh, I didn't catch your name?" "I didn't toss it." "No matter. In fact, you look a bit like any name given would ill-suit you. So I shall name you. Master Rank--yes, it has a ring, and you smell it--" "I could say the same about you." "Tut, tut, my boy, such temper. Now," the Green Man squeaked again, "Let us look to Rule One. Rule One is...."

"Rule One states that no person shall enter the wood without paying toll to the Guardian. That's me." The Green Man bowed. "My name is CuCulain, or CuCu for short." Ingmar zoned out as CuCu droned on. "Rule Two states that..."
What do you think, is CuCulain Celtic enough?

"Rule two states that no one shall enter the forest without a reason passible by me. Is there a reason you are in this forest?"
Ingmar thought to himself. "Why did I come here? Hmmm. Oh yes! I remember" He then said, "The reason I am here is because..."

The Knights that say Ni! demanded that I cut down this White Ash tree with a Herring and bring it to them as a sacrifice.
Cucu, If you would help me cut down this tree, I will....

"If you help me cut down this tree, I will give you..." Ingmar fumbled in his pockets and tried to figure out what he could give CuCu. His hand closed on a very ordinary stone that happened to be round and blue. "I will give you this stone," he said. "It has these three properties:..."

"The first property," the little man said, glancing aside furtively, "of this little rock is very magical, and very valuable. Kings would fight wars for this magic rock. Why, emperors would pay cities worth of gold to have this power. I'll tell you why." He cleared his throat, and said, "If you say the magic spell that I will teach you, this rock will let you hear the thoughts of your greatest enemy." He paused a moment, and then continued, brightly, "and that is not all! The second property of this rock..."
