This new movie that's come out called "300" looks really cool and more than a little violent. Plus it's full of muscular, half naked men (what's not to like). Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have seen it yet and if you could share your review with us. I would especially apreciate giving me a rating as to the amount of sex, graphic violence, cursing etc etc. I'm a Christian and I need to know how far over "the line" this movie goes when deciding whether or not to see it. Looking forward to hearing from ya.

Well for starters... its pretty loud.
As far as blood and gore, not so much. I mean you see a splash of blood but no cut appears on the person. They do hack of some heads and hands but all you see is the musculature, no spurting blood and what not. Theres also a scene with a whole village of people "attached to a tree" which pretty much speaks for itself.
And the sex bit... the women's breats are prominent but thats about it.
I enjoyed the movie personally and will most definatly buy it when it comes out on dvd... its a real testosterone rush but I manly went to see it because I like the graphic novel it was based on. I was a little annoyed at the bits they added like "freedom fighters" and giving the queen her own storyline to continue the fight at home because those were nnot present in the novel plus I feel it ruined the historical integrity a bit. Theres a couple odds and ends that also bugged me but w/e. In the end, I would reccomend for people to see it if only the one time.

I personally enjoyed this one. While not exceptionally graphic, this one is definately not for the kids. Historical integrity aside, this is a great action flick with a nice slick look to it.

I just couldn't stay away for long. I did go and see this movie...and in IMAX. I have to be honest in saying that I have never seen a decapitation 6 stories high before. But it's just something I have to endure on the road to becoming de-sensitized. I have to admit that it is visually stunning. And the acting isn't too shabby either. However, I did expect it to evoke more of an emotional response in me and it didn't. I kept looking at it analytically but I never really "lost myself" in the story. Maybe I'm just emotionally sterile. Or maybe SRL has spoiled me for other stories. (How can you enjoy the rest, when you've read the best!)It was definately NOT a 'chick-flick' even with all the half naked, burly men. Anyone care (or dare) to disagree with me?

I just watched it, and i have to agree, i didnt get as involved in the plot as I normally do. I found the movie amazing though, it was like a work of art.

(Am I allowed to reply to my own topic?) Anyway, "300" just came out on Pay Per View and I watched it last night. I saw it in the theatre (IMAX) and was prepared for the experience to be "smaller". But since I wasn't totally blown away by the special F/X, I had the chance to watch more closely the acting, dialogue and themes. Whatever the venue, this movie stands up. I'm sure it's destined to be a cult film. P.S. The weird thing is that I just found the word "phalanx" in the dictionary and then I heard them talk about it in the movie last night. It figures into the plot in a big way. Weird that I totally didn't notice that conversation about phalanx the first time I saw it. Hmmm? Maybe I was too preoccupied with looking at all the studly men. The testosterone was almost as thick as the blood. (Do people still use the word "studly" now-a-days?) P.P.S. Let's start a survey. How many of you know what a Phalanx is? No unfair looking into the dictionary or watching the movie again.

I know what it is. We did a lot of talking about that in our European Civ. class over the summer, but unlike this movie and I think they did it in Troy also, both sides were usually in formation and both sides would be charging each other. At least that is what my history teacher said so I'm taking it on her authority haha. That formation was prominently used until around 197BC when the Romans started using a checkerboard pattern of mini phalanx's (if thats how its pluralized) this way their men could move quicker and flow to weak spots or where they were needed. This is awesome haha I actually learned something this summer.

You know Bear, I think you're right about that Phalanx showing up in other places. The Romans did that "Turtle" thing with their shields. Their's were more rectangle shaped and they put them side by side and on top of them and would all march in really tight formation. Nothing could stop them. I saw that in that "Cleopatra" movie with Elizabeth Taylor. (I really did get my entire history education from TV. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have made it out of highschool.)
