Some of my friends recently got me hooked on the Final Fantasy games, and I was wondering if anyone else here has played any of them (I'm sure someone has). So far I've played 12, 10, and I'm currently playing 7, although I already know a good bit of the story from watching Advent Children. If you haven't played them, and have a Playstation or PS2, I would definately recommend at least those three. Great storylines, even better characters, and really fun to boot.

I've been a fan since the original came out on the NES, and played each game as it was released. I've loved them all for different reasons but I've found recent fans have a hard time getting into the older games.
FF IV is my favorite by far, although VII and XII are VERY close seconds. People look at me sideways because FF IV is an old SNES game (released as FF II in the states).
Currently playing through FF XII on the PS2, and FF III, newly released on the Nintendo DS. Planning on buying FF IV Advance, FF V Advance, and FF VI advance for the GBA (also playable on the DS) in the very near future. Also probably going to get FF I / FFII: Dawn of Souls for the GBA so I can have the complete classic set in one place.
I will say this: these games have probably the deepest, most compelling stories in video game history. The soundtracks are beautiful (I own several on CD) and the characters are all very memorable and unique. The games are masterful, and for those of us who have seen them evolve each new installment includes subtle winks to previous games that bring a loose sense of continuity and enjoyment.
In short: love 'em! Absolutely love 'em.

I agree. The first time I ever really cried during a video game was while I was playing FFX. And then, of course, it happened again while playing FFVII. I've been debating about trying to get my hands on a copy of FFVIII, since my friend says it's a good one, and I'm curious to find out more about Squall's character after seeing him in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. And FFXII is easily the most beautiful game I've ever played. Although playing it from 10 in the morning until almost 4 the next morning can get a little trippy.

I got VIII on Amazon.
I'm a newb to FF, due to my dad's mortal hatred of video games....I've only played X, and watched Advent Children. I WILL play XII when i finish all the other games i've started and left hanging, including VIII. But I love them; they're fun fun stuff. I can't wait to play XII; I heard it was excellent.

Since I'm in the habit of performing thread necromancy here, I thought I'd point out that Final Fantasy IV, my all-time favorite FF game, was just remade and released in Japan on 12/20. It's fully 3D now, with voice acting and everything. A US version is sure to follow this year and I really cannot wait. FFIV's impact on me is almost as profound as Lawhead's and Albion's (all of which kind of came together around the same time in my life). Can't wait!

I saw the "Final Fantasy: Spirits Within" movie last night. Too new-agey for me. (And people say Christianity sounds Foo Foo La La. Yikes! Guyah Guyah Guyah ) Hope I didn't offend all the fans but I need my beliefs a little bit more "where the rubber meets the road". Maidryn
