Hey everyone, First of all HI! I'm a first time user, long time Lawhead fan (SOA, and Byzantium being my favorites) and I was wondering what you guys and gals thought of the new Nintendo console. The Nintendo Wii came out late this month and is proving to be a close rival to the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Usually both Sony and Microsoft dominate the console world, but the Wii has some features that are meant to intrigue. Though it doesn't have the memory capability or the ability to play cds and dvds, the Wii has an online feature that is new to Nintendo and a new wireless, motion sensing remote. The Wii can also play Gamecube games and has four Gamecube controller ports. Some of the other features include the Virtual Console and Wiiconnect24. There are also a lot of good games out with the Wii, Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, Madden NFL(although I am looking foreword to a hockey game),Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and many other classic titles. Well I hope that was interesting, I can't wait to here back from you guys. CB P.S. If you want more info or pictures or sites just post on this thread or send me a PM.

Hey, Captain! Good to have you on! To be honest I know very little about the Wii. I've heard many people say it's "revolutionary", but I've not used one or seen one used. A rival for PS3? I dunno. did a Wii sell on Ebay for $44,000 a couple Fridays ago?

I don't know about how much it sold for on ebay, but it's features have certainly attracted a lot of people. Of course, there are a lot of people out there who would do anything to get their hands on a new console. I heard a rumor that a PS3 sold for 16,000$ about a 2 weeks ago, so I guess it is possible for a Wii to sell for a lot, although 44 Gs sounds a bit far fetched. I have found some sites for those who are interested in some more in depth info so here they are and have fun! CB wii.nintendo.com en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii www.wii.comwww.gamespot.com/wii/index.html

A buddy of mine sat in line from 8:00AM until midnight the day prior to the launch in order to get his hands on a Wii. I've yet to play it but I have heard nothing but good things from him. A lot of the native console features, like being able to make caricatures of yourself and import them into games, as well as the highly innovative motion-sensitive controller, are causing quite a buzz. Combined with the Wii's ultra-low price tag ($250 versus the PS3's impractical $600) and you've got a real competitor.
The thing about the Wii is its price tag and mass appeal. Nintendo has tried to appeal to non-gamers by making the games themselves interesting to play. The system isn't as graphically powerful as the PS3 or the XBox 360 but that's not its charm. The beauty of it is that my buddy, for the first time ever, can enjoy playing games with his friends AND his parents. It's a real family console. And did I mention the much nicer price tag?
Hard core gamers won't abandon their PS3's. Heck I wasn't even going to consider a Wii initially. But after seeing PS3's price tag and learning about its various backwards-compatability problems, my money is going to Nintendo for now. When the PS3 drops in price I'll probably get one. After all, I do want to play Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII. But in the meantime, it's Wii for me.
And Captain, I'll just add that in addition to playing GameCube games (which is a VERY attractive prospect), the Wii can use its online features to download every single NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and even TurboGrafix 16 titles. Those games are only eight or ten bucks each. So instantly, Wii owners have access to literally thousands of titles - plus the excellent Wii titles.
In a slightly unrelated note, I do know the Mrs. got me a DS for Christmas. This is another Nintendo system I am thoroughly impressed with. The emphasis on using your mind and honing your reflexes is truly unique. And it plays all Game Boy Advance games too.
For years Nintendo was my favorite gaming company. And now they are quickly becoming that again.
