I wasn't nuts about the previews, and didn't rush to see it. My sister and others said it was really good, so then I went. It isn't anything like the old movie, but it was really fun, and it had a great, creepy sort of soundtrack (Danny Elfman). I was very entertained.

I haven't seen it yet but I would love to. It looks really wild and nothing like the original but more in line with the actual story.

i didn't like the oompa loompas.....they were all the same....they should have had a variety instead of doing that modified film crap.....and Depp was a little too much like a bratty child than a childish adult.....Wilder was much better.

I definitely agree about the oompa loompas and Depps performance. But Boy am I Glad he did it instead of Marylin Manson who was up for the role. Wow, can yall imagine how disgusting and freaky that would have made the remake. Anyway, I liked it especially the songs. Yet, I prefer the older oneoverall.

See, I think Depp was awesome playing that character...the problem is that the character sucked. That seems to be a common problem in scripts these days....I think there are some really good actors/actresses out there right now....if only they had something to work with!

I must say that this new adaption of the story is put together rather well. Combining contemporary culture with the original plot has made this movie one of my favorites.

I disagree about Manson. While I thought that Depp was suitable psychotic, the appeal of a Manson Wonka had me so stoked. Of course, it wouldn't be a movie for kids, but a cult classic for certain (b/c the old movie isn't disturbingly creepy? ...right....).

I thought the original had Wonka as a diabolical schemer - as if everyone's actions was manipulated by him in a creepy sort of way. Whereas the new one, Wonka was just a neurotic baby, which is less creepy and just plain weird.

Sure, Wilder's Wonka was a diabolical schemer....but he was also just a little bit terrifying (the "tunnel" scene on the Wonkatania?).

Being terrified of Merlin is different than being terrified of a raving lunatic with a weapon. (Not to equate Merlin with Willy Wonka...that's just wrong...but you know what I mean...) To me, Wilder's Wonka was creepy but in a funhouse sort of way where you felt there was a purpose to it and it was orchestrated. Depp just seemed like a psychotic loose cannon. Bother were creepy, but in different ways.
That was my impression.
