So, you know I've been busy. My sister-in-law got me the new Petra CD (more of a compilation album) - it's called....FAREWELL!!!!! Lord, take me now! I cannot live without Petra in this world! Does anyone know the scoop on this?

OK, after listening to it several times now, I am ready to give my opinion.
If you've never listened to Petra and want to know what they've been all about all these past 30 years, this is a good album for you.
That being said, the whole live concert thing just doesn't work for me. I think any long time fan is going to find it difficult to listen to. The guys are getting old, and it just doesn't sound good - in fact, at times it sounds downright awful. I don't know how else to say it.
It is good to hear Greg (former lead singer) sing some old songs, and John Lawry's voice - and it does bring back memories of all the concerts I've been to over the years. So I'm glad I have it, but don't get it if you're looking for great, high quality music...get it for sentimental reasons.
Quick story...the best Petra concert I was ever at was up in northern wisconsin somewhere. I don't even remember where it was. Our youth group drove hours up to a county fair to hear them play. The band was something like 2 hours late because they were in a minor accident on the way up. Most of the crowd had left by the time they arrived. When they did get there, they just threw their instruments on stage, hooked up one microphone next to the base drum, and gave another mic to John Schlitt. They in essence gave an acoustic performance that I will never forget to maybe 200 people. It was absolutely awesome.
(Petra was my handle on bulletin boards (before there was internet) for years as a teenager, until I learned that it was also a Russian female name. Yeah...that explains a lot...)

I find myself enjoying many of the Brit actings coming over here. But Joss Stone really tops the charts in my book. I mean that voice... just wow. I also like to think of her as my second ex wife for the fun of it. Can't say that about people like Micheal Buable
