Just out of curiosity...since I don't have 250 posts yet, did my post go away when this thread was moved to Piccadilly Square? Or is that not how it works? I was just wondering.

Hi Ceridwen,
No, your posts are still there. I moved it to Picaddilly Square because of the comments in the thread made by other individuals. We will not stand for members to attack other people's religious beliefs on this forum, however, debate over such issues is perfectly fine in a controlled environment.
Moving it to Piccadilly Square keeps the general lurker from seeing these types of posts and thinking that the Christians on this forum will attack them as well if they join and post. Also, most people who reach 250 posts have had a chance to get to know the other members and aren't as likely to start attacking another member simply because they believe differently about God, or have made different lifestyle choices. If they do, we deal with it on a case by case basis.
We want to be open and welcoming to all people on this forum and that can't happen when we have Fundamentalist Christians attacking anyone who believes differently than they do. I hope you understand our position and look forward to continuing the discussion with you when you reach the Senior Member level.
Thanks,
Jeremy

We want to be open and welcoming to all people on this forum and that can't happen when we have Fundamentalist Christians attacking anyone who believes differently than they do. To be fair, it wasn't ONLY the Christians who were taking part in the heated debate... Everybody had something they were arguing for. To make statements like these make it sound like the Christians were the only ones involved, which is unfair to them. Besides, your use of "Fundamentalist" doesn't apply, unless you were going for the literal definition, "old-fashioned," which wouldn't then require removal.

Cynan, I understand that it was a heated debate, but the attacks were coming from those who stated that their view was the only "true" view and anyone who didn't believe like them didn't understand the Bible or Christianity. Those types of statements are attacks on another person's faith and/or belief and were being made by those claiming to be Christians. We can have debate without resorting to attacking the faith of others, so I moved it to Piccadilly Square, where those who debate it tend to do so without attacking others. As you know, we have moderators here from many belief systems... I'm a Christian Druid, another is a protestant, another a Catholic, another LDS... We have many beliefs but we coexist and work together and don't attack each other's religious beliefs. The comments in that thread might as well have been said to my face, saying that I don't understand Christianity or the Bible. If I felt like my faith was being attacked, without even being in the debate, imagine how those forum members who were in the debate felt? Is it fair to let them be persecuted by Christians for their beliefs? I use the term "fundamentalist" because I don't believe all Christians are like that... Pat Buchanan, Fred Phelps and Pat Robertson are Fundamentalists... Billy Graham and my pastor are not. What's the difference? Billy Graham preaches in love and doesn't come out publicly attacking other people's beliefs or organizations. He doesn't organize rallies and protests against those who believe differently from him. He doesn't participate in book burnings for those books he doesn't consider "Christian" enough for him. Basically, he acts like Jesus would have. My pastor allows anyone to come to church and doesn't judge them. Our First Impressions leader was raised Buddhist. We have gay couples at church. Our pastor preaches with love and says that "God will love you where you are and help you grow from there." It's God's love that is going to change a person's heart, not personal attacks by his followers. The Fundamentalists, on the other hand, act more like the Pharisees. Rigid and uncompromising in their belief. They attack those who believe differently (like Fred Phelps - abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=4183635&page=1). They are narrow-minded, legalistic and self-righteous. It was a pastor like this who kicked my sister out of church for having a child out of wedlock. Now she has turned against Christianity all together because "if that's what it means to be a Christian, then I don't want to have anything to do with it". Is that the message Jesus conveyed in the Gospels? Was his message one of legalism or of love? I could go one for days, but I'll wrap it up with this quote from a DC Talk song, "The single greatest cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Him with their lips yet deny Him with their lifestyle. This is what an unbelieving world... finds simply unbelievable." - Delmore Schwartz

Typically, I swing between Gnosticism or Wicca. I was trying not to attack and think I did an okay job, but I bit my tongue alot. Funny, I was raised Catholic, but as I learn more about the burning era and the Magdalene Laundries, I find myself abhorring some of their dogma. Possibly why I swing to either of the above religions. So sorry if I caused problems.

I appreciate your insights and welcome the fresh perspective on spiritual matters. It's always good to seek answers to difficult questions. That's part of each person's spiritual journey.

I appreciate you doing that twyrch. That last bit the other person put on offended and I could think of no way to nicely respond so I bowed out. I knew there wasn't anyway I would get through to this person and it felt like I was talking to Pat Robertson. Ya know, frustrating.
While in college, I met alot of nice women and men from various Faiths including Islam and learned about Ramadan from her and I met other Islamic women from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. I worked with another woman from India who was Hindu. So I'm very open to various Faiths and employ a live and let live philosophy. Besides I've no room to judge others.
I'm glad I didn't cause problems as the last statement tossed at me from that "other forum" still bothers me.

Smart move buddy. I should have moved it myself but forget that is where it should have been. We haven't had a rip snorting debate in quite some time so being human and forgetful does creep up sometimes. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

At least this way, you get to remain the "Good Cop". I've been the bad cop since Day One.

Well, we all have our preferred roles to play. I like my roles with jelly and frosting.
