This question is for those of you familiar with the Pendragon Cycle. I read the first four books back when they first came out, but I no longer remember them well, so I'm looking for some advice.
Is there an age or maturity level that you would consider to be the minimum for the first four books of this series? Other than character deaths, are there aspects that would make these books more suitable for adult readers?
One of my younger relatives has seen the books on our shelf and recently started asking about them. (I think he is interested because he is watching the new Merlin television series.) He is about to turn ten, and he has read and greatly enjoyed the Harry Potter series.

If he's read the whole Harry Potter series, there shouldn't be a problem with explicit content. There is some violence (a field full of the slain, a pregnant woman ripped apart) but it's never tasteless or described in gory detail. Read them with him, if you have the time and inclination, or encourage him to talk to you at the end of each reading session on his own. :-)

I agree. Having read both series, I wouldn't see an issue with the content for the age in question.
