Tegid brought up a very good point to us. Some of the competitions here are dragging on forever and people are losing interest in them.
We all discussed some different alternatives and came to the conclusion that it would be best if those who participate in the competitions decide among themselves how best to keep things hopping.
Here's a few of our suggestions:
1) Questions going a week without any new responses get canned and replaced with a new question.
2) Hints can be given after 5 incorrect guesses.
3) Questions dragging out for 3 days, regardless of responses, would be scrapped for a new question.
If anyone has some better suggestions, voice them here and we can create a poll on it next week to decide how best to handle this, unless everyone seems to be unanimous about a certain course of action.
Once something is decided on, then that will the "status quo". If someone isn't abiding by the new rules and things get slow, just contact any of the mods and we will try to move things along.
Most of all, Have Fun!!

My personal preference would be for something along the lines of option (3), with the understanding among the active participants that if a solution is "close" after seven days, then by mutual agreement it could continue on for a little bit longer, but probably no more than three extra days. If someone sees that his or her question has hit a brick wall for about three days, that person should be willing to offer a hint. I'm really not liking option (1). How many threads on this forum come back to life after being completely inactive for seven full days? That's a long time in forum-land. And if you're willing to address this matter on a slightly more comprehensive scale, could we talk about what to do if a current host of a question disappears for an extended time? Remember Lady Bookwyrm's lament in mid-August: But...the riddle thread kind of...died! Sometimes things happen unexpectedly: people are called out of town, or have accidents, or can't get on the internet, or forget or don't realize it's their turn, or in some other way don't find their way back for many days. If it is currently that person's turn to host a question, but there's no sign of a log-in for (fill-in-the-blank) days, could there be a way for someone somewhere to decide whether/how the baton should be passed to someone else? (If so, maybe some kind of arrangement could be made like the one that was hammered out with Gwalchmai, who agreed to ask a riddle if the person whose turn it was, couldn't come up with one.) Just some thoughts and suggestions.

That sounds good. I know it was my question in 20 Questions, but I had no computer access.
