I got good news....
At the last minute, right before it went to the presses, my university's arts journal contacted me because they wanted my poem "The Last of the Wine" (which is up on this board) for this year's edition. Now, I realize that it's probably because they needed to fill a page or something like that, and after my callous rejection from before, I should probably have told them to take a hike. But, I'm a ham and if I want exposure I need things in print, right? So I told them to go ahead and print it--which, despite the lackluster way in which it has come about, makes me excited.
So h00ray!

That's awesome! Even if they rejected you first, at least they came to YOU to fill that page. . .they could have gone to someone else. . .so they may have rejected you thinking they had too much and then they were like. . .oh, wait! We have room. . .let's get that poem in there. . .which is a better way of thinking about it

A little quotation that I found, I think it applies to us all. . . "I write for the same reason I breathe-because if I didn't I would die"--Isaac Asimov Don't you agree with that?

I do agree with that.
In other news, the journal came out today. I now have two poems in the 110th volume of The Transylvanian. Hooray!

Actually, I believe people who don't work for a living have a different perception of what causes death. Call it a......philosphical axe grinding.

You think Asimov didn't work for a living? I don't call a career engrossed in your passion as "work". Those nearest to death have the greatest insight about its meaning. Just a personal opinion.

Happiness eludes the boisterous among us, Quiet hearts forever search for happiness as well Always hoping, always looking for an entertaining time, Yet happiness is lost, no longer in our hearts to dwell.
“Why?!” cries the anguished one whose hope was torn away, The screams of fear are quieted by their own familiar sound, Still, the heart is comforted by a source not our own, Happiness is in you but only after joy is found.

Interesting poem, dgan. You should call it "A Meditation on Happiness"-- I enjoy the sentiment, and your phrasing is nice. Good job; post more !
