I know this is a personal question, but did anyone participate in this yesterday? If so, what are you planning on giving up until lent?

I personally didn't participate, but I have a friend that gave up cursing. Erm....last I heard from her, she wasn't doing too well with it either ;D I found it rather funny, but she's going to give it a serious go

She wrote in her Xanga that she was giving up cursing. My co-worker, Michelle gave up Pepsi. I'm glad I'm Protestant. I'd hate to give something up for 40 days....

It's customary even among some protestant churches to give up something for Lent.
I didn't do Ash Wednesday this year...I felt kind of bad about it, but to be honest I had no idea that Lent was going to start on the 9th of February. Stupid dating holidays by a lunar calendar. If the 8th hadn't been a friend's birthday, I wouldn't even have gone out for Fat Tuesday.

But I am curious about it and how other people handle it.

Well, it's definitely observed within the United Methodist Church, and the Lutherans keep it too.

Not talking about Elenwen, Jeremy....but a friend of mine IRL Oh yeah... IRL. I keep forgetting that we have friends IRL.... Dinadan, that could be. Like I said, it just wasn't practiced where I grew up.

I participated. I help out with a youth group at church and we had some activities with them Wednesday night.
I'm really making a go of giving up cursing as well. It is something I don't do much of but anything is more than what I want. I don't want to swear around people much less around the kids I hope to have in the future.

I'm REALLY trying to not curse any more either... Not just for Lent, but as a rule... I have a 16 mo. old son and I don't want him going over to grandmas saying, @#$%@!#$ all the time.... LOL....

I don't celebrate Ash Wednesday or Lent, but one of my friends is Catholic, and I think she's having a hard time deciding what to give up for Lent. As for me, my family is pretty much nondenominational, and Ash Wednesday never comes up. I didn't even know that it exsisted when I was younger.

I gave up taking the elevator (but for a reasonable amount of stairs), Ice cream, alcohol and pop.
