I'm not sure, so someone please tell me whether this is so: PayPal charges less (or nothing?) if the money is coming from the sender's bank account than if it's a credit card payment. If this is so, I've supposed it was because PayPal itself, like any merchant, has to pay the credit card company a cut of the transaction. It may be that if people add a little extra to their bank account and then send that, instead of charging it, the fees won't be (that much of) an issue. (I could be totally wrong on any or all of this.) From what I've read, sending money is free... receiving money is not. The account is linked to a bank account and the money is placed in that account and the fees are taken out of that account. Dgan, you're right... It does sound like a lot of work, which is why I suggested that one person just take care of a month instead of going through all of this. Chrystalized, I understand your trepidation of using Credit/Debit over the internet, but as long as you do it from a secure site (which this is ProBoards is one of) then you will be fine.

Well, how big is the paypal fee? Would it make a big difference to add that to the board fee? How much would that be a person, with about eight or nine (someone else count; I have issues)?

Just to clear something up: The Paypal account is separate from your personal bank account. Paypal takes its fee from the money being paid to you, not from your personal bank account. So If I sent the board owner $7 to his paypal account, Paypal would remove a small percentage from my $7 and the Paypal account would then have the remainder. The board owner can then pay ProBoard from the Paypal account, or if ProBoard dosen't accept Paypal payments, he can transfer the money to his personal account and pay from there. (Transferring money is free)
So, to cover the cost of the transaction, we would each send about $7.50
It only requires the board owner to "verify" his bank account with Paypal to be able to receive payments. You don't have to have a Business account to accept payments, just a "Premier" account. (I have a Premier account and I can accept credit-card payments.)

I'm beginning to agree with Dgan. This all does seem very complicated. I'm voting now to keep it as is. That said, if we as a community decide to do it, I will contribute.

Ok. This is why I started the thread. I had heard some people talking about the amount of pop-ups and wanted to see the interest level in Ad-Free. Now everyone knows what's involved and can make an informed decision.
