Cyfnach looked to the sky seeking help as he bent down and picked Rhakar up and slung him roughly over his shoulder. Now, let us leave. You don't know what you are asking of me in this but you shall learn just what kind of friend he is.
**Inside the head of Rhakar**
The dreams assailed him of a burning village and slaughter all about him. The blood stained clothing he wore a testament to the carnage he had brought to these unhappy homes. One man stepped from the woods and as Rhakar caught site of the man, he turned his head and ran, jumping into the quickly moving river headed for the falls.
The images ran quickly together to when he was pulled from a tributary by rough hands. The warriors looked on him as one dead. Reaching out with trembling fingers, the warriors jumped back in surprise before carrying him before their leader.
The smoke and stench of death still clung inside him as he recalled the laughter and honor he had won for what had happened that day. It was only two years later that he learned of how he had been....
**Near the lake**
Cyfnach handed the body of Rhakar to two young men as he stretched tightened muscles. They follow at a distance. We must make ready for what comes. The warriors hastened to act as they had been directed before Cyfnach glanced over at the figure of Rhakar and shook his head with anger. Why had Kaie stepped in? She didn't know the past of what had happened. He could never forgive Rhakar for the pain he had caused. To think he had been living with a monster these many years and not know made him growl low in his throat. Picking up a spear, he hurled it at a nearby tree to embed the shaft completely.
Turning he stalked off to the lake to wash away the blood.

Kaie watched Cyfnach, concerned at the abrupt turn his affections had taken. Together she and Shylah worked to heal Rhakar, as noone else seemed inclined to disregard Cyfnach's order to avoid the man.

Cyfnach stood up to his waist in the lake and washed off the blood before heading in to get some food. With a glance over his shoulder he saw the women cleaning and dressing Rhakar's wounds. He shook his head again as he left.
A moan escaped his lips as his eyes fluttered open with the sudden fear of a caged animal. What happened?

Kaie leaned forward to meet Rhakar's wild gaze. "It's just us. You're safe."
She glanced over at Shylah and settled back. "Sorry, Shylah. I'm trying not to destroy your handiwork again." She winced and turned a bit before relaxing. "That was a nasty bump on your head, Rhakar. Are you ok?"

He shook his head to clear the images swimming in his brain before his eyes flashed open once more ignoring the pain in his head. Where is Cyfnach? I must explain. His eyes clouded over as he coughed up some blood.
I'm sorry. You are both being very kind. My past has finally caught up with me I'm afraid.

Kaie grimaced. "We're not going anywhere and you're definitely not moving till Shylah stabilizes you."She turned to Shylah. "What's the blood from?"
Shylah shook her head. "I think he inhaled it from that nasty cut on his gums. There aren't any broken ribs, and his wounds from the battle are fairly superficial. I'll put in a few stitches while you keep him distracted."
Kaie studied Rhakar for a moment. "Would you like to tell us the story?"

He winced in pain but struggled to hide his discomfort as he contemplated how best to reply. I shall tell you what happened and you may judge me for yourselves but I'm not going to ...coughs up some blood... say anything with so many people around. Many of those here would kill me outright.

Rhian saw Cyfnach washing the blood off his torso and she noticed it was a coming from a gash across his chest. She approached him after he came back on the shore and gestured to the wound. Let me dress that. If you don't take care of that, you may end up with an infection. Rhian pulled clean linen from her pouch with some herbs to bind into the wound. Cyfnach allowed her to bind his wound while he ate the proffered bread from one of the men in their group. Cyfnach, shouldn't we continue moving? We are close the village are we not?

He smiled as he gestured over his shoulder. Thank you and yes. The village is just beyond those trees. We are fairly safe here. This lake borders the far side of the forest near our homes. We are within a distance that getting to the village shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Would you care to sit and eat with me? You could use some food I imagine.

Thank you, I am hungry. The fighting took a lot out of me. She sat down and took the proffered food from Cyfnach.
Rhian glanced around the clearing to look at their group. They were divided, that was clear. The Dyn Dythri tended to Rhakar while everyone else avoided him. Cyfnach's reaction to him was unusual, but she trusted his decision without question. He had proved himself as a leader.
The fight came roaring back to Rhian's mind as she chewed. It played like a dance- slowly and with a grace like the Lughnasagh celebratory dances maidens would perform at dusk. Rhian had danced those dances a few years before, thinking of them brought a smile to her face. The smile conflicted with the shaking of her hands at the hurt she had inflicted on the enemy.
The man I-- who I-- what will happen to him?

He had watched her closely wondering how she would deal with the deaths of so many. The man you killed? He's dead now so what's left of him will remain to feed the animals.
Watching the groups forming he knew that a definite division was taking place. He didn't like it but he might have to speak with HIM.

Kaie spoke of trivialities as Shylah stitched the various cuts and gashes Rhakar had accumulated. His eyes remained closed, his body stiff on the hard ground as he clenched his teeth against the pain. Finally, the last stitch was in place and Shylah ripped a strip from the bottom of her t-shirt to wrap the final gauze pad into place. "I've used up my emergency, supplies, but you'll be fine. I'm checking your shoulder now, Kaie."

Cyfnach waited for Rhian to respond but as his eyes wandered back over to where Rhakar and the other women were busy, he caught site of Kaie's tatoo. Recognizing it at once as one of the same marks on Rhakar, he could only wonder if this peaceful village would soon be filled with death and destruction. Could there really be traitors in their midst.
He spoke in hushed tones to Rhian as he stood. I'm sorry but something must be dealt with right now. If you would come with me, we can talk more a little later.
Without waiting as his patience continued to slip, he strode with haste towards Rhian. In a tone filled with malice he looked at her shoulder. We must talk.

Kaie jumped at his tone and stared up at him. "Why are you so angry? Rhakar is your friend and mine! How could you ask me not to care for him? I seriously think you must have been hit on the head. Perhaps you should have Shylah look at it and make sure. How have you forgotten your friendship so quickly?"

Cyfnach held his tone but his thoughts raced to many pleasant times with Rhakar in the past. Do you know what he is, what he has done? He is a butcher.
