Hello everyone! You all sound like a fun group! I've been lurking for a while to see what goes on in here and I thought I'd say "hey" finally. I actually joined the forum when it first started eons ago but then the old board went down. I sort of forgot about it because it was gone for so long and just recently checked back. I'm surprised to see how much more developed it is. Anyhoo... I've been a reader of SRL since I was a pre-teen. "In the Hall of the Dragon King" was the first book in the library I read that was not in the kids section. It took my three tries to get through it, but I finally finished it. I've read and own all the SRL books. Along with him, Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and Sharon Kay Penman are my favorite authors.
I'll shut up now. Just wanted to say HI!

Thanks for the hellos. I'm a stay-at-home mom of an 18 month old, have a passion for history (14th-15th century British) and read like there's no tomorrow. I decided last December to learn Latin for no reason, and am enjoying that! I'm going it alone, learning by textbooks at home. I've taken a hiatus over the summer but hope to get back to it when the cold Minnesota winters begin again. The Star Wars movies are my favorite movies and LOTR by Tolkien is my favorite literature. That's the most exciting stuff about me!

It is always nice to see other stay at home moms here on the forum. I stay at home with our 21 month old son. I love to read also, but don't get much done because I am usually chasing him around all day. Have fun posting!!

Aah! How do you learn a language alone? I just can't do it... I need a teacher...

It's actually not too difficult to learn Latin alone. There is an awesome web site (I can't even think of the school now) run by a prof of classical languages. Has all sorts of helps. I've got several helpful books to assist with the textbook. So it's not so bad. The thing about Latin is, you mostly learn it to read and write, not speak. Sort of like ancient Hebrew or classical Greek. It's more of an academic interest. AND there are several interesting books that have been translated into classical Latin: Winnie the Pooh, Dr. Suess and Harry Potter. Makes learning fun! I've only finished with approx. 1 quarter worth of lessons, so I've got a LONG way to go!

Caitriona is my sister and she got me check out this board. I am impressed! I quite like it. ;D I find it quite ironic that I was the one who started reading Lawhead novels in high school (I am the older sis) along with Tolkein and C.S. Lewis and she wanted nothing to do with them then. Now, she has read more of Lawhead's books than I have! Looks like a fun place to keep hanging out at! Hope to get know more of you guys!

Thanks! I have to say. I have found people quite friendly--more so than other groups I have joined!
