I'm not aware of their being a limit to the number. If you're worried about it, just delete some of your old stuff. Unless you have very large bulky PMs, you should be able to hold onto several hundred I believe based on what I've seen elsewhere.

No problem. I've heard of people with several hundred and are asked to reduce what they have but I've not seen anything set in stone for it. I don't generally run a risk of maxing things out as I remove some of the PMs as things are addressed.

Kaz, in case you don't know about this feature, you can back up the Inbox once a month and download the backup as zip file. It's a button in the toolbar on the PM page. If you want to save any messages between monthly backups, there's the cut-and-paste method [yellow]twyrch[/yellow] mentions.
And, unfortunately, cut-and-paste seems to be the only way of backing up the Outbox. Which is recommended, because the more stuff that piles up in it, the more unstable it becomes; it could become corrupted and you could lose things you didn't want to lose.

what does the backup button do?

It creates a zip file of all the individual messages in your inbox. It then sends you a PM telling you the zip file is ready for downloading, and will be available for the next 7 days. That PM gives you a link to click on, to go get the download. Once you've got it on your machine, you can expand it with StuffIt or WinZip or some such program. You will then have a folder on your computer that contains your Inbox PMs as a bunch of individual html files that you can open with your browser any old time.
By the way, backing up your Inbox does not delete any of your messages or change your Inbox in any other way.

What's up with the Topic of the Month? It's been the same since October or so. Would be nice to have a direct link to somewhere there's action going on. Or do we have to vote for a topic?

Yes, that is a well-deserved slap on the wrist. Thank you (and everyone else who PM'd me) for kicking my behind into gear. The Topic of the Month has been updated for July. If you have any suggestions for August or in the future, just PM me. I will choose a topic and make sure it is updated each month.

Welcome back, old Byzantium House member! You can buy the cool stuff with forum money, and you are nominally a 'staff member' so you can get into Faerie Fire and Piccadilly Square without needing a password. Don't worry, you have no responsibilities (but no extra powers either).
