Twyrch, of the two links you posted, the first ('HERO') is the comic book. Those guys were all over cornerstone (christian music festival) a couple of years ago, and the cover is clearly comic book art . Great! Thanks Amodman. I got paid today, so I'm going to order the "right" book from Overstock.

Ya know, I just get the feeling that the dude in the red hat is some sort of historical Catholic missionary to China (if such a thing exists), *dreads Lawhead writing another historical fiction novel on such a topic *

Or India maybe... Something in the Asian area... I hope to God it's not another historical fiction piece... I don't think I can stomach much more....

Aside from Avalon, he hasn't written one page of SciFi or Fantasy since 1993. I don't know about you, but I think I've been patient long enough.... Heck, I've been waiting 12 years for another good fantasy novel. Not even George Martin fans are so accommodating.

I was looking through an art book at my grandparents house and I think I found out who the guy in the red hat is. His name was Federico da Montefeltro and his portrait was painted by Piero della Francesca. Francesca also painted a portrait of Montefeltro's wife. The reason he looks kind of weird is because he lost his righ eye and the bridge of his nose to a sword blow. well anyway here are a few web sites about him and the artist. www.abcgallery.com/P/piero/pierobio.htmlwww.le-marche.com/Marche/html/montefel.htm

<Laughs at the thought of a Borgia cycle> Hey, I'd read it! Of course, I must agree with Twyrch: It's been too long since we've had any proper fantasy from this man. (Even though I wouldn't mind a Robin Hood story from him...)

Well, it's all been gone a while now, but I seem to recall that the guy in the red hat was some rich Italian (yep, you guys all got it right!) I studied this pic in Art History class a VERY long time ago. I know he wasn't a pope, and he got the chip in his nose in a swordfight. Lost his other eye too, that's why the portrait is in profile... Can't remember the name of the artist though. It's been a while... wait on, I found him. Take a look: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federico_da_Montefeltro
